Open Fire: J. Golden Kimball Takes on the South is Scott Hurst’s 1st book. In Open Fire, Scott Hurst fulfills the promise of his father and more, bringing the story of J. golden Kimball to life in a wonderful and entertaining way. This loving exploration—celebration, really—of the life of J. golden Kimball is a must-read for anyone who is going to serve or has served a mission or even anyone who just knows a missionary. It is a story of faith and doubt, hope and redemption. It is a tale of love and loss, trial and tribulation, and ultimately conquering our own fears. In short, it is a story for all of us (from the Foreword of Open Fire).
If you are interested in joining the blog tour, please leave a comment with the date you’d like to post or contact me via email.
Here is a brief description of the book:
In this fast paced story filled with holy hi-jinx and missionary mayhem, Golden squares off with his characteristic cowboy sense of humor against everything from spiteful preachers to the threat of death at the hands of the terrible Ku Klux Klan. Join Golden as he takes on the South with these unbelievable, true stories.
Meet the Author:
Scott graduated from Brigham Young University and is currently enrolled in the School of Hard Knocks. He is a nomad who claims his home in Utah, California, Hawaii and wherever else in the world he happens to be. The closest thing he’s ever done to being a cowboy was dude ranching for a day. He couldn’t sit down for two weeks afterwards. Like Golden, he’s tall and skinny. He also shares some of Golden’s colorful vocabulary and his immense love for the gospel.

I’d love to be involved, preferably late in October–like the 31st if possible. Thanks!
Hi Braden,
Looks like I need to learn how to check out this website better! October 31 would be fine with me. I’m honestly not sure how a blog tour works, so just let me know what you need me to do, what time etc. I’m excited to do it, even if I don’t know what I’m doing!
Scott
Me too. I have October 15th available or just assign me a date.
Aha, here you are Kathy! I’ve got you penciled in for the 15th. As I keep telling everyone I have no idea what I’m doing so please let me know what you’d like me to do and I’m more than happy to do it!
I’ll join the tour as well. I’d love a hard copy, if I could have one please. Thanks so much. Christy
Christy,
I will ask about how they handle hard copies for sure. I just noticed that I’ve got you on the 15th with Kathy as well. Is double booking bad? Do we need to rearrange some dates? Let me know what I can do for you!
I could do Friday, October 26. I too would love a hard copy.
Thanks,
Heidi
Hi Heidi,
Let me know what/where/when/how I can get you info/answers that you need.
The 26th works great. Hopefully by that point I’ll know what I’m supposed to be doing on this blog tour!
Scott
also…I’m asking about how CFI handles hardcopies for you!
I would be interested in participating in this blog tour if you have Nov 1st or 2nd open.
Hi MK,
November 1 would be wonderful. Please let me know what you need so I can get everything for you.
CFI has my tour listed as ending before then…but I don’t!
Scott
And I didn’t see your reply before I posted again below. Would love to participate somehow for you. Sounds like a great book!
Sign me up for October 15th. I’ll post on Connections and Paper and Parchment.
I’d like to join the tour too, how about the 26th?
I could participate on the 23rd if there are interview, spotlight, or guest post options available. I plan to read the book, just can’t get it in for this tour!
Thanks,
MK
thanks so much for the chance, but unfortuantley/ or fortunately depending on how you look at it, we are moving our oldest daughter to Arizona to start her new job as an athletic trainer after graduating in May, so it is a busier time than usual right now for me. Good luck it sounds like an awesome book!! =0) wish I could participate
I just re looked at my schedule and I can probably do it on the 31st if that works ok for you, but i’d need a hard copy because my kindle isn’t working right and for some reason downloads seem to be freaking out on my computer, so if one is available that would be great… and if not, we can figure something out Im sure.
so i guess i can participate after all in the blog tour lol
I’ll join the tour as well. I’d love a print copy if they’re available. November 1 works for me. Thanks so much. Jennifer @ Fictitious Musings
I’m interested in October 30th.
I would love to participate! I would be happy to do a review on the 29th of October if that date is still available.
I would love to be a part of your book tour. I could review on the 20th or 21st of October. If possible I would like a hard copy but will be happy with a kindle copy.
Yes, I would like to be a part of this tour. I would like October 24th OR 25. I would also prefer a hard copy. Thank you,
Sherry gammon
I would like to participate in this tour. If possible on 27th or 28th. I would prefer print copy, but if they’re not available, any format will do.
I’ll join the tour as well. I’d love a print copy if they’re available. November 2mf works for me or any day. Jusr let me know what date ans I’ll post the blog tour button. Thanks so much.
I’d love to participate, but I don’t have time to review it. If you’d want to just send me a guest post or something already done I’ll gladly put it up whenever you’d like. Thanks!
